IS²TEM 2027 Singapore uses the EasyChair conference management system. Invitation

We invite presentations on the theme of Converging Pathways to a NASCENT Era in the form of an individual paper, a poster, or a symposium, under one of the following strands/topics in science and STEM education ( Conference Theme and Strands page):

  • Science Teacher Professional Development and Teacher Education
  • Curriculum Policy, Assessment, and Evaluation  
  • New Media and Technologies 
  • Nature of Science (NOS), History, Philosophy, and Sociology 

STEM Education Strands

  • STEM Curriculum, Teaching and Learning across Settings
  • STEM Teacher Professional Development and Teacher Education
  • STEM Education Goals, Policy, and Assessment
  • Sociocultural issues in STEM education
  • History, Philosophy, Epistemology, and Nature of STEM and STEM Education

Guidelines on Submission of Abstracts

The abstract should be between 400-500 words in length and include the goals and significance, methodology, findings and discussion, and implication of the findings.

Review Process and Criteria

The abstract will be reviewed based on the quality of the writing and research, and whether it is of interest to the IS²TEM audience.

Presentation formats

Individual paper (25 minutes)  

  • The paper is presented by an individual author or co-authors. 
  • Each presentation is allocated 20 minutes and there will be 5 minutes of Q&A.
  • Typically, three individual paper presentations belonging to the same strand, are grouped together in one 90-minute concurrent session. 

Symposium (80 minutes) 

  • The symposium is presented by multiple authors or co-author groups. Each 80-minute symposium comprises 3 or 4 presentations.
  • In addition to the abstracts for the individual presentations, the symposium proposal should include one 400-500 words integrative statement describing the overall theme of the symposium and connections between the presentations. 
  • Download the Symposium Template. The completed proposal document must be uploaded during the submission process.

Poster  

  • A single author or group of co-authors may prepare a poster for an interactive session.
  • Handouts may be prepared for dissemination to interested audiences. 

Language

All abstracts and presentations should be submitted and presented in English.

Registration Policy

Important: At least one author for every accepted poster or paper (individual or as part of a symposium) is required to register and make payment by 30 April 2027. Otherwise, your paper will be withdrawn from the conference.

Full Paper Submission for Conference Proceedings

Presenters of accepted abstracts may also wish to submit a full paper for inclusion in the IS²TEM 2027 Proceedings which will be made available online after the conference. Only papers that have been presented at the conference will be included in the Proceedings (Note: All abstracts with at least one registered author will be included in the Conference Programme whether or not a full paper is submitted). The Proceedings will be published with an ISBN. The deadline for the uploading of your full paper is 28 June 2027 (If you wish to be considered for the Best Paper Awards, the deadline for uploading your full paper is 31 March 2027).

The manuscript should be 4,000 to 6,000 words in length and should be formatted following the latest APA guidelines. In addition to the manuscript (Word document), please include: (a) a cover letter stating the originality of the work and ethics clearance; (b) cover page with the title, all authors’ details (affiliation and address, and corresponding author’s email address). Manuscripts that do not meet the publication requirements will be returned to the authors. The full paper manuscript should be uploaded using the same author account that submitted the abstract.

IS²TEM Best Paper Awards

IS²TEM 2027 will be awarding two Best Paper Awards sponsored by Springer. Results of the award will be announced at the end of the conference. The recipients of the award will each receive a prize plaque (one plaque per award regardless of number of authors) and a SpringerNature Link book voucher (one voucher per award regardless of number of authors) worth 200EUR.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must have their abstract accepted for IS²TEM 2027, be registered for the conference, and have submitted their full paper online by 31 March 2027.
  • Papers must be presented at the IS²TEM 2027 conference.

Papers Will Be Evaluated Using the Following Criteria

  • Relevance and significance of topic and research to the field
  • Clarity of research question(s)
  • Thoroughness and quality of literature review
  • Appropriateness of methodology for study
  • Quality and completeness of analysis
  • Clarity and soundness of conclusions
  • Promotion of a continuing research agenda or improved professional practices
  • Overall quality demonstrating coherence and reasoning
  • Contribution to the cumulative knowledge base of the field

Travel Awards

Up to six hundred Singapore Dollars (S$600, maximum) to offset registration and/or travel expenses associated with presenting your own work at IS²TEM 2027 in Singapore.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all the following criteria:

  • Confirmed acceptance to present at IS²TEM 2027 Singapore.
  • Listed as the first author on the accepted paper.
  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a graduate programme affiliated to a university or a research institute.

Award Notification

Award recipients will be notified by email after 22 March 2027 (Note: End of Early-bird Rate for Conference Registration: 31 March 2027)

Award Conditions

Required:

  • Proof of full-time student status
  • Proof of presentation: you must make your presentation at the time appointed in the conference programme.
  • Proof of attendance: digital copy (PDF or JPEG) of air or ground transportation tickets, hotel statement, or food receipts clearly indicating date and location should be provided upon collection of the award.

The monetary component of the Award will be processed following verification that Award conditions have been met. The award will be presented after your presentation (on the same day) in the form of a Cashier’s Order made out in Singapore Dollars.

1) Submit an abstract to present at this conference.

  • Ensure you are the first author
  • You should submit as early as possible, in order to receive notification of acceptance before applying for this travel award.

2) Wait for notification of acceptance before applying for the travel award.

3) Send an email to the Conference Secretariat ( is2tem2027@nie.edu.sg) by 22 March 2027.

  • State the Abstract Number(s) of your accepted paper(s).
  • Provide a short statement to support your request to be given this travel award
  • Include documentary proof of full-time graduate student status
  • Include your current Curriculum Vitae (there is no specific template)

4) You will be notified by email after 22 March 2027.

5) Register to attend before 31 March 2027 to enjoy the early-bird student rate.
