Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the inaugural International Science and STEM Education (IS²TEM) Conference 2027, to be held at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, from 1 to 4 June 2027.
IS²TEM marks a new chapter for two conference communities that have grown up alongside each other. The International Science Education Conference (ISEC), first convened in 2006, has brought together science education scholars for close to two decades. The International STEM Education Conference (ISTEM-ED), launched in 2024, created a space for dialogue on the changing role of STEM education in a rapidly digitalising world. In 2024, the two were held as sister conferences. In 2027, they converge.
We believe this convergence is timely. The questions that now animate our fields (such as how learners come to understand and trust scientific knowledge, how disciplines meet in the classroom, what generative artificial intelligence means for teaching and learning, how curricula prepare young people for futures we cannot fully predict) do not respect the boundary between science education and STEM education. They are better approached together.
Under the theme “Converging Pathways to a NASCENT Era“, IS²TEM 2027 invites you to bring your emerging ideas: work that is still taking shape, research with high future potential, practices being tested in real classrooms. We look forward to welcoming researchers, teacher educators, teachers, graduate students and policymakers from Singapore, the region and beyond.
